Lordy, Lordy – three weeks! I seem to be breaking every single blogger’s code out there by not being a bit more, shall we say…’regular’.

Forgive me, but as they say in the real world of commerce, life gets in the way, i.e., my job – as in, my ‘paying’ job, as well as my freelance work, and that’s kept me way off schedule lately!

Anyway, here’s some samples of my greeting card work with American Greetings.

Happy Friday!

Monday Sketchin’…

sketchbook73

sketchbook75

Well, it’s been quite a month here at Lake Effect Central – tons of outside distractions have kinda/sorta taken over for the time being -but alas, I can’t stay away for too long, so here we go with some more sketchbook silliness! I’m gonna try and get stuff up a bit more often, (as in, at least once a week) – in fact, I may just roll out some of the greeting card stuff I’ve done, some more children’s book illos and then we’ll get back to some cartoons, or maybe more sketchbook stuff – because, hey, that’s what I do!

So again, many apologies for the lack of new stuff over the last few, but I’ll be sticking around – just gotta get other projects outta the way first!

Comics Curmudgeon

Comics Curmudgeon

I thought I’d toss out one of my favorite sites…a site that, frankly, never fails to amuse me – The Comics Curmudgeon.

Being someone raised on comic strips…who devours them…I stumbled upon CC about 4 years ago. It didn’t take long to see what it was about.

Created by Josh Fruhlinger, CC essentially opines on a small cross-section of comic strips, maybe 20 different ones in all, and the commentary is hilarious, insightful, and scathing at times. Comic strips have been been ripe for this type of critique, and while he’s not the only one working this circuit, his is one of the few blogs, that quite simply, go for the throat intelligently and insightfully…and, may well be the funniest.

What makes CC so special (and successful) is the quality of writing – the man is funny and once he squares up a target, he rarely misses.

If you’re a fan of any of the strips CC goes after, his posts may be fairly cringe-worthy, but the man isn’t careless with his observations – the strips he goes after are, frankly, sitting ducks, and are begging for someone…anyone…to call ‘em out.

So, there you have it – complete Lake Effect endorsed hilarity…go there…now…

Buh-bye 2012!

Well, Happy New Year’s and all that stuff! As we hit the finish line on 2012, all of us here at…well…my cartoon-blog-thing…want to wish everyone a great 2013 and beyond…hm…that sounded kinda Buzz Lightyear, but hey, you get the idea.
Anyway in the spirit of ‘year end’ wrap-ups, I thought I’d roll out some of my favorite cartoons over the past year. Not just because I personally think they’re funny, but also because I’m lazy and I always wanted to do a ‘year in review’. There’s a real limited window of opportunity for this stuff and, by golly, I’m takin’ it!

So, here we go – the “Lake Effect Year In Review”:

May -

theatre

Apparently, many people go to the movies for all their social networking needs.

venn2

Headstone humor…I wonder if Venn was, in reality, cross-eyed?

witch2

The witch would’ve been better off seeing a dermatologist about the whole green skin thing.

June -

50new

Haven’t I read this stuff before? Like in a Penthouse magazine I found under Dad’s bed in 1973?

cards

It’s amazing what greeting cards are able to do nowadays. Buy some. It keeps me working.

July -

chickens

We all have goals. Mine is to see “Django Unchained’ at some point this week.

zombies

Zombies: trending down…

August -

inout

Ever have one of those days? Like, every day?

patsandybatman

I liked “The Dark Knight” better.

September -

dogcartel

I figured ‘Jack Russell’ sounded funnier than ‘Bichon Frise’.

October -

apps

I think a cool app would be one that turns every day into Friday. Or, better yet, eliminates Mondays.

November -

shirt

The Americana music trend is now officially everywhere, including fashion. God help us, if the next trend is, say, 80′s techno…Kraftwerk, anyone?

OK, that oughta do it – I could post more, but it’s time to go crack open some champagne.
Happy New Year’s Everyone and see you in a few days – hey, I’ll need to recover from all the revelry of falling asleep in front of the TV at 11:30!

Hunka Hunka Holidays

elfpatsandy

Ah, Christmas! Finally! After all the shoppin’ and general overall craziness, we’re heading into the homestretch. Although, I actually prefer Christmas Eve to Christmas day – must be an anticipation thing.

Anyway, those of us here at Lake Effect (meaning – me, and my occasional editor, the ever-vivacious, Miss J) wanted to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and any other celebration you observe at this time of year.

It’s a pleasure working this blog and I appreciate every single ‘like’, comment and view that comes my way…it’s a blast, and the interaction with you guys is what this is all about – so, thank you – you’re the best!

And, with that, I’m going to go do some last-minute Christmas errands (because there’s always last minute Christmas errands, isn’t there?) and wish everyone the best during this holiday season and into the New Year!
